Have you heard of carrageenan? It’s been catching a lot of flack recently as many, including Food Babe has unearthed the ugly truth behind this binder that is common in so many almond, soy, and coconut milks. Yep, it’s yet another carcinogen to look out for Will the food industry ever throw us a freaking bone?!
If you’ve read any of my previous posts, you know that I very much support enjoying alternatives to cow’s milk. It’s full of natural hormones, added hormones (if not organic), and there has bee much research correlating milk consumption to skin conditions like acne. So in order to find some healthy alternatives, I went on the hunt and read some labels. Here are some carrageenan-free, dairy-free alternatives to cow’s milk:
Trader Joe’s Almond Milk.
Surprisingly and sadly, almond milk is one of the most common milk substitutes to carry carrageenan. Luckily, TJ’s carries a their own brand without it and it can be found in their refrigerated section. hallelujah!
Trader Joe’s Unsweetened Soy Milk.
The cleanest milk alternative I found with just TWO ingredients: organic soy beans and water. Really looking forward to the day all the other milks are made as cleanly!
